This year marks the 15th anniversary of BadAzz MoFo. That’s a decade-and-a-half of nonsensical rambling by me, as well as pop culture at its baddest. To celebrate, I wanted to do something special that was new and fun, but captured some of the essence of what BAMF was back in the mid-to-late 1990s. I decided to go back to revisit one of the most popular features we ever ran in the print edition of BadAzz MoFo. The Expendables (or, Why’s the Brotha Always Gotta Die?) along with The Dead Brotha Hall of Fame appeared in BadAzz MoFo Volume 2, Number 2, which quickly sold out. Since then, neither of those pieces has been in print. With that in mind, I am pleased to announce Why’s the Brotha Gotta Die?!? – Examining Why Black Characters Get Killed in Movies. This 84-page book contains all-new essays and profiles that explore how and why black characters get killed off in so many movies. Even though the book is inspired by the articles that originally ran in BAMF #2, this is all-new material—none of it has ever been in print before, nor has any of it appeared online. This is the first all-original publication from BadAzz MoFo in over five years, and it is a perfect way to celebrate the anniversary of pop culture at its baddest. November 30, 2010I Almost Forgot…
November 30, 2010This is another project I’ve been working on recently, a little something I wrote, that was directed by my friend Matt, who directed Black Star Warrior (which I also wrote).
Quick Update!!!
November 29, 2010It seems like I’ve been slacking when it comes to updating the site, but honestly, that’s the only thing I’ve been slacking on. There’s a ton of stuff going on this week at MoFo Central, and it’s all been taking up a bunch of my time. If you live in or around Portland, there are two big events going on this week. First, there is a sneak preview screening of my movie, My Dinner with A.J. (WATCH THE TRAILER HERE). This is going down 7pm, Thursday, Dec. 2nd at the Hollywood Theatre. Tickets are $5 each, with proceeds go to help fund Project Youth Doc, a non-profit that teaches teenagers how to make their own documentaries (BUY YOUR TICKETS HERE). The next night, Friday, Dec. 3, my good friends Cort and Fatboy will be hosting a special live version of their radio show, featuring myself and all their regular guests. Following the show they will be screening Black Santa’s Revenge before a special showing of Scrooged (MORE INFORMATION HERE). And finally, I’ve been working on a top secret new project that will be announced later this week.
dvd review: FIVE FOR HELL
November 18, 2010I can’t lie to you people…I didn’t watch this movie. I tried to watch it. I tried really hard. But it was terrible. And not terrible in a good way, where you can’t look away from the cinematic disaster playing out on the screen. No, this is the kind of terrible that makes you want to get a jump on preparing your taxes or clean your toilet bowl with your tongue. I know…this isn’t much of a review, but then this isn’t much of a movie.
