BAMF Interview Archives: Shane Black

March 21, 2011

This is the first installment of the BAMF Interview Archives. Over the course of next few months I will be posting some of the interviews that I have conducted over the years. In most cases, only small portions of these interviews were used for articles/reviews I was writing for the newspaper I used to work for. This interview with writer-director Shane Black was conducted in 2005 just before the release of Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. Not only was the film about a week from being released, lead actor Robert Downey Jr. had not yet made his triumphant comeback with Iron Man. (more…)

book review – THE DEAD

March 12, 2011

матрациBest known for his Young Bond series chronicling the adventures of James Bond before he became a spy, author Charlie Higson surprised me with the debut novel of his new series, The Enemy. Owing much to zombie films like Dawn of the Dead and not-quite-zombie films like 28 Days Later, The Enemy is one of the best Young Adult novels I’ve read in years. And now that I’ve read Higson’s follow-up, The Dead, I can say that this is shaping up to be one of the best YA series that I’ve read. Rather than picking up where he left off in The Enemy, Higson goes back in time, closer to the beginning of the devastating plague that has wiped out much of the human race.

Kicking off more than a year before the events in The Enemy, The Dead starts several months after a mysterious disease has killed off everyone over the age of fourteen. Those that haven’t been killed have been turned into hideous diseased cannibals that hunt and devour the children who have not been affected by the disease, but are still struggling to survive in a decimated world. The Dead follows a small group of survivors as they forage for food and look for a safe place to stay. But as anyone who has read The Enemy knows, Higson does not play favorites with his characters—no one is safe in this brutally violent world.

My Biggest and Bestest Project So Far

March 3, 2011

By now most of you know that I’ve been working on a Young Adult novel, Darius Logan: Super Justice Force. Well, the book is done, and I will be publishing it myself later this month. The official site went live at the end of January, and the first 25 chapters have been serialized for free. This is the biggest project I have ever done, and it is also the most near and dear to my heart. Over the coming months I will be aggressively marketing the book, while working on the sequel. Please understand if the posts on this site come with a bit less frequency, and know that it is all for a good reason.
