Explaining Easter to Your Children in 5 Easy Steps

April 22, 2011

killer-rabbit4.jpgHere is a re-post of something I wrote in 2008. It offended a good many people then, and I’m sure it will offend them now.

A friend of mine was recently wrestling with how to explain Easter to her 3 year-old son. He had recently been exposed to the Easter Bunny, and was curious about this giant rabbit who was handing out candy. My friend, being a very smart person, was uncomfortable about exposing her son to the far-fetched fairy tales of Easter as a religious holiday, as well as the insipid commercialism that is an excuse to sell tons of candy to children. (EDITOR’S NOTE: I am no longer friends with this person, and she actually turned out to be really stupid, as well as bat-shit crazy). Sensing her dilemma, I came up with a list of ways to explain the various facets of Easter to her son (as well as all children with questions about the holiday, Jesus or God). Keep in mind that I don’t have children of my own; but if I ever do, these are the things I will tell them. (more…)

And when I say that Ip Man 2 is one of the best Donnie Yen movies I’ve ever seen, I’m not saying that it is the absolute best—just one of the best. Yen has been in some awesome movies, including Iron Monkey, Wing Chun and Hero, and for my money, Ip Man 2 ranks right up there with those films. (more…)

The Adventures of David Walker: Showdown at the Post Office

April 8, 2011

As many of you know, my life story consists of a series of bizarre circumstances and cases of me being in the wrong place at the wrong time. There was the time my car got fire-bombed. The time I walked into a drive-by shooting. The altercation at a Fatburger in Los Angeles where the police got called. Being escorted out of book festival when someone very vocally threatened to kill me. The multiple fights I’ve had to break up. Me stopping the drunk guy trying to rob a UPS truck. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. But yesterday’s encounter with insanity was the craziest of them all. (more…)
